Paul Michael Maxwell

Paul Michael Maxwell, a beloved father, brother and grandfather, passed away February 14, 2021, in Norman, Oklahoma, at the age of 64. Born June 4, 1956, in Oklahoma City, Paul grew up and attended schools at Pauls Valley, Oklahoma, and graduated PVHS in 1974. He married the love of his life, Berna Dawn Gates, that very year, and they had a beautiful daughter, Lisa Ann, who was the apple of his eye. Paul attended the University of Oklahoma to fulfill his passions for music, art, history and his pursuit of knowledge with an almost encyclopedic memory. Paul was a lead guitar player, touring with his country bands. He was an artist, known for his paintings and sculptures. He also was a licensed draftsman. Paul used his talents and skills to replicate arrowheads and artifacts for the Sam Noble Natural History Museum and you can still view his works there today.

Paul is survived by two brothers, Bob Maxwell and wife, Deanna, of Dallas, Texas, and Steve Maxwell and wife, Amy, of Elmore City, Oklahoma; his daughter, Lisa Dobyns, of Norman, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Ryan Dobyns and Jade Dobyns, of Norman, Oklahoma, who will forever remember the special bond they shared with their “Papa.”

He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Ruth Maxwell, his brother, Jim Maxwell, both sets of grandparents and numerous other relatives. Though they have left this world, their spirits live on in the memories and stories shared by loved ones.

A memorial service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held Saturday, September 16, 2023, from 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Pauls Valley Arts Council Building, 220 W. Paul Ave.

In honor of his memory, the family kindly requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Children Hospital in lieu of flowers or gifts.
