Mildred Marie (Hartley) Lewis was born February 15, 1932, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. Her parents were Luther Ray (Shorty) Hartley and Alice Irene (Owens) Hartley. Mildred attended Whitebead Elementary School and graduated from Pauls Valley High School in 1949. She married Archie Lewis Jr. in 1950. They had two children, a daughter Suzann Marie, and a son, Martin Dale. Mildred attended night school at East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma and Mid-America Vo-Tech in Purcell, Oklahoma. Upon graduating from high school, she went to work at the Pauls Valley National Bank and worked there several years. Mildred also worked for the Garvin Country Treasurer Office, Garvin County Election Board, Chamber of Commerce and B.J. Landrum Accounting and Tax Services. She was manager of the Bosa Community Center in Pauls Valley for 10 years. Upon retirement she moved to Omaha, Texas, to be near her son and daughter-in-law. Mildred served as Treasurer for the Omaha, Texas, Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star until she moved to a retirement center in Mt. Pleasant, Texas.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Harland ‘Nubbin’ Hartley; and her beloved daughter, Suzann VerSteeg.
Mildred is survived by her sister, Susie Scheffler and husband, Bob; her son, Martin Dale Lewis and wife, Bobbie; her son-in-law, Judge Pat VerSteeg; her grandchildren, Jami Bohanan, Jason Roswell, Patrick VerSteeg and wife, Brandi; her great-grandchildren, Austin Rosewell and wife, Jennifer, Jake Rosewell and wife, Madalynn, Keelyn Bohanan, Daniel VerSteeg, and Philip VerSteeg; her great-great-grandchildren, Lila Rosewell and Luke Rosewell; plus a host of other special relatives and friends.
Mildred impacted the lives of many and left a wonderful legacy. The family invite you to celebrate her life on Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Stufflebean-Coffey Funeral Home, 500 N.
