In Jim’s younger years he, as a drummer, traveled locally playing in bands. He loved music of all kinds which led him to DJ’ing at the local Pauls Valley Radio Station where he also had a fifteen-minute Gospel show early every Sunday morning for a while. Throughout the years he would play the drums with Praise and Worship Teams in the different churches he and his wife would attend. He was licensed with Independent Assemblies as a minister, which allowed him to minister in jails, prisons, and hospitals. Over Jim’s lifetime he became a part of helping the Church grow, through preaching, teaching Sunday School, going out on the streets to minister, joining the Gideons to give out Bibles, share the Word of God and the love of God in jails, prisons, Walmart. He never felt out of place when someone asked him to pray for them. He would stop what he was doing right then to pray. He wanted to make a difference wherever he lived. Here in Pauls Valley, he was asked to join Rotary and take a place on the United Fund Board and help out the Samaritans which gave Jim an open door to reach those who needed help. Fundraising was a passion of his which he took on with fire and determination, working fervently to raise the funds to meet the needs of our local community. He loved his time at the Pauls Valley Daily Democrat as a reporter and photographer. Working there gave him the opportunity to meet many local leaders and merchants, as well as the good people of Pauls Valley. He never knew a stranger. He gained lifelong friends through his time with the newspaper.
Jim was also an author, writing a book about his personal experiences he had with the Lord over the years. “Acts Of An Awesome God/Out of Darkness.”
Jim’s family wants to give a shout out with very grateful and thankful hearts to those who took care of him in his final days on earth: The Life Spring Hospice Team Jana Mara, Steven Moen, and Hollye Piepke. along with caregivers Vicki, Janice, Arlita and Keri. Love and gentle care were their markers.
