Janice Lee Carroll

Janice Lee Carroll, 79, of Cedar Falls, Iowa, passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home.

She was born February 21, 1944, in Fort Madison, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Marjorie Fine Rippenkroeger. She was united in marriage to Ed Carroll on June 17, 1967, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fort Madison. Janice graduated from Aquinas High School in 1962. She received her bachelor’s degree at Marycrest College in Davenport, Iowa, in 1966, and her master’s degree in Spanish at UNI in 1972. She worked as a Spanish teacher at West and Central High School until retiring in 2004. She was a member of the Waterloo Education Association, Iowa State Education Association, National Education Association, and Iowa Retired School Personnel Association.

She is survived by her husband, Ed Carroll; two sons, Adam Carroll of Overland Park, Kansas, and Eddie Carroll Jr. of Parkersburg, Iowa; daughter, Aimee (Rick) Carroll-Jones of Cedar Falls; six grandchildren, Mary Carroll, Jaden Hoskins, Kiersten Reif, Alexis Carroll, Lily Carroll, and Emily Carroll; two great-grandchildren, Chandler Hersom and Quinton Hersom; three brothers, Robert (Laurie) Rippenkroeger of Fort Madison, John (Beth) Rippenkroeger of Wever, Iowa, and Scott Rippenkroeger of Janesville, Iowa; and two sisters, Christine (Stanley) Ping of Cedar Falls, and Sandra Rippenkroeger of Urbandale, Iowa.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, James Rippenkroeger. Memorial Mass will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, November 4, 2023, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church under the direction of Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway. Visitation also one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday at the church.
