Barbara Lou Shepherd-Jenkins was born on December 11, 1930, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to Arthur and Mary (Schlegel) Garton and passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024, in Moore, Oklahoma at the age of 93 years.
As a child Barbara moved from Wyoming to Oklahoma, carrying with her a cigar box of rattlesnakes’ tails and a single toy. Barbara graduated from Piedmont High School where she played basketball and was named All District. Barbara enjoyed cooking and was a fabulous cook. She worked many years as a cook in the school system. She fed thousands of hot, homemade school lunches to the children. On August 18, 2012, Barbara married Gary Jenkins. Barbara will be dearly missed by her family and friends.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Jenkins of Moore, Oklahoma; sons Kenny Shepherd and Kelley of Moore, Oklahoma, Dennis Shepherd and Marla of Moore, Oklahoma, Steve Shepherd and Dawn of Gainesville, Texas, Rick Shepherd and Michelle of Newcastle, Oklahoma, Cliff Jenkins and Lisa of Blanchard, Oklahoma, and Steven Jenkins and Terri of Connecticut; daughter Belinda West and John of Sulphur, Oklahoma; sister Mary Lee Wishon of Edmond, Oklahoma; grandchildren Kyle and Tiffani Shepherd, Greg Shepherd, Eric Shepherd, Clint and Elise Shepherd, Shane and Krystle Shepherd, Lauren and Joshua Gomez, Shelby Shepherd, Sydney Shepherd, Jordon Shepherd, Chrisy and Mark Hernandez, April and Rudolpho Ruiz, Nathan and Heather Angel, Dylan Finley and Ian Finley, Ashley West, Sonya West, Nickie West, Amber Swenson, Hailey Rivera, Zachary Jenkins and Abby Jenkins; great-grandchildren Luke, Kensley, Nicole, Tyson, Otto, Scarlett, Judson and McCoy Shepherd, Julian and Tyson Gomez, Erin, Elisa, Mark, Michael, Riley, Lillian, Kennedy, Nash and Luke; six great step grandchildren; and great-great-grandchild, Hattie Jo.
She is preceded by her parents, Arthur and Mary Garton; brother Bob Garton; and sister- in-law Thelma Garton.
Funeral Services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the church of Christ in Maysville, Oklahoma. Burial at Maysville Cemetery under the direction of John W.
