Moore signs with OBU

From banging on mom’s pots and pans to serving two years as drum major for the Pride of Maysville, Paige Moore has always got the beat.

Now the Maysville senior will be marching her way to the Bison Brigade Marching Band. She signed for a band scholarship on Monday to attend Oklahoma Baptist University.

“Band makes me feel good about myself,” Moore said. “It brought me out of my comfort zone.”

Moore plans to major in music education and become a band director.

“Eventually, I want to be a college band director, because go big or go home,” she said.

OBU chose to recruit her for the Bison Brigade Marching Band.

“We’re really excited to have Paige,” said Assistant Director of Athletic Bands Gavin Strickland. “I sought her out because she’s a drum major and already a leader.

I want a band full of leaders. This year, we will have two drum majors who are women, so Paige can learn from them and maybe one day lead our band herself.”

All OBU band students receive a scholarship that stacks with their other scholarships.

Moore enjoyed the people she met when visiting OBU, and her grandmother lives in Shawnee.

Moore is a percussionist who mainly plays the snare drum.

Her favorite place to play has been the Pauls Valley band competition.

“It’s close to home, and I’ve done it ever since I started playing marching band, and I’ve made friends from the other schools,” Moore said.

She also participates in the yearbook and National Honor Society.

“It’s crazy to think we’re already here, but it’s time for her to go off to bigger and better things,” said her mother, Gwen Moore-Tillery. “From the time she was itty-bitty, she listened to music all the time, and then she played in the band.”
