OKLAHOMA HOUSE REPORT by Rep. Cindy Roe
This week has been eventful at the State Capitol, with meaningful progress on legislation and the opportunity to welcome groups from across Oklahoma.
I am proud that two of my measures are moving through the legislative process, both focused on the health and safety of Oklahomans. House Bill 3287 would increase the amount of daily physical activity for students to 30 or 45 minutes, depending on grade level. Research continues to show that regular exercise supports stronger academic performance, improves mental health and contributes to better long-term health outcomes.
We have seen firsthand how students benefit from physical activity before testing, as it helps them release energy and focus better in the classroom.
This measure is about setting our students up for success both in school and in life.
I am also carrying House Bill 3288, a public safety measure aimed at supporting victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. After a recent visit to a medical facility, I saw a sign offering a discreet way for victims to ask for help. While I commend those efforts, it is clear we need a more consistent, statewide approach.
This bill would require hospitals and health care facilities to post clear signage in both private and discreet areas, informing victims they can safely notify staff if they are experiencing abuse, coercion or trafficking. It would also require facilities to establish a protocol for responding when someone comes forward.
When a person finds the courage to ask for help, we must be ready to respond.
We had the privilege of hosting TRIO Day at the Capitol. TRIO programs provide critical support for low-income students, first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities. These programs help students prepare for higher education and the workforce, breaking down barriers and opening doors to new opportunities across our state.
Another highlight was Public School Advocacy Day. It is always meaningful to hear directly from students and educators about their experiences.
This annual event serves as a reminder of the vital role our teachers and schools play in shaping the next generation. The education and well-being of our students will always remain one of my top priorities.
As always, I encourage you to take time to rest and be with those you love. Please know I am grateful for the opportunity to serve you, and you remain in my prayers each day.
I truly value hearing from you. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.
