Stratford, Wynnewood athletes receive All-District football honors

Class A-I District 2 named several Stratford and Wynnewood football players to the All-District Team.

Four Stratford seniors were honored.

“This is an awesome group of young men that I am very proud of, and they are very deserving of these awards,” said Stratford Coach Michael Blackburn. “They are a part of a group of seniors who have been great leaders on and off the field and have set a good example to follow for other students on how they play, but more importantly, on how they act and carry themselves each day off the field. They will be greatly missed.”

Lincoln Hall, despite playing as Stratford’s quarterback, was named Running Back of the Year due to the running threat he posed.

His season ended halfway through the season due to injury, but he totaled 640 yards rushing and seven touchdowns this season. In his career, he had 2,472 rushing yards and 24 touchdowns.

As a quarterback, his career also included 2,602 yards passing and 21 passing touchdowns.

When Hall watches the sport, he cheers for the Bengals.

“I liked tigers when I was little, and the first game I remember seeing was the Bengals,” he said.

However, his favorite player never played for his favorite team.

“One person I always looked up to was Tim Tebow, because of how he leads his team,” Hall said.

Hall plans to attend Randall University and become a physical therapist.

“I’ve been around it a lot and been around sports all my life,” he said. “I think I could help kids.”

Braxton Bear was named First Team Running Back/ Wide Receiver.

This year, Bear primarily played wide receiver, receiving 112 yards and scoring one touchdown. In his career, he had 20 recep- tions for 360 yards and two touchdowns.

“It was good to have a good offensive line to be behind,” Bear said.

Bear also tried to inspire the up-and-coming Bulldogs on and off the field.

“We made sure the younger ones had the right role models,” he said.

He has enjoyed watching Justin Fields when he was on the Chicago Bears.

“He was leading a team that wasn’t that good but found ways to make them better,” Bear said.

Bear plans to join the Army National Guard to be in the infantry and attend East Central University, where he plans to study business or teaching.

“I think I might like to be a coach because I had coaches that supported me, and I think I’d be a good one,” he said.

Gavin Green was named a First Team Defensive Lineman.

For the Bulldogs, he led the team in tackles with 71 tackles and 3 sacks. “I’ve always just loved the physicality of the game,” Green said. “Nothing beats getting the pancake or the big hit. Nothing feels better.”

He also played center, where he served as a leader for the offensive line.

“As a center, I was always smaller than the people I was going against,” Green said. “There would be people with 100 pounds on me, but I was still finding ways to bring them down.”

He enjoys watching the Pittsburgh Steelers.

“I’ve grown up with them,” Green said. “I like Antonio Brown because he went crazy, and he was a beast.”

Green plans to study radiology at the University of Oklahoma. He was inspired by the field when he saw X-ray and MRI images of himself after breaking five different bones.

Kelyn Dickerson was named First Team Linebacker.

While battling injuries this season, the inside linebacker totaled 63 tackles. In his career, he had 130 tackles and two sacks.

“The thing I got most out of this season was that the harder you work, the more you get out of it,” Dickerson said.

He has played football since he was in second grade.

“My favorite thing is being able to hit other people,” he said.

He has followed the career of Kyler Murray from the University of Oklahoma to the Arizona Cardinals.

“Even with his height, he’s able to scramble and use his legs really well, and he throws bombs,” Dickerson said.

He plans to marry his girlfriend and study teaching and coaching at ECU.

“The teachers and coaches here have been very godly, and I want to reach out to other kids the way they reached out to me,” Dickerson said.
