A message of hope at Christmas

OPINION/COLUMN

I want to take a moment to say Merry Christmas and also share with you the true meaning of the holiday. Christmas is often seen as a season of lights, music and traditions that bring families and communities together. But, at its heart, it‘s about the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, our Savior.

One of the things I love most about Christmas is seeing angels everywhere, on trees, in nativity scenes and on front lawns across our district. They’re more than just decorations; they remind us of the important role angels play in the Christmas story.

In the Bible, angels show up at pivotal moments to deliver messages, offer guidance or provide protection. Their presence signals that something important is happening. One of my favorite stories is when the angel Gabriel appeared to Mary. Gabriel told her that she would give birth to Jesus, a Savior for the world. This wasn’t just news for Mary, it was a message of hope for everyone.

Angels continue to appear throughout the Christmas story, reassuring Joseph, announcing Jesus’ birth to the shepherds and proclaiming peace on earth. They are the ultimate sign that something miraculous is unfolding. Jesus’ birth wasn’t a last-minute plan; it was the fulfillment of God’s promise from the very beginning. These angelic appearances remind us that God keeps His promises and is with us, even when life feels uncertain.

Angels are a sign of hope, and that message still matters today.

When days are hard and the future feels unclear, Christmas reminds us that God is with us. Just as the angel told Mary, the Lord is with us still. The birth of Christ assures us that God sees us, knows us and loves us.

This season also gives me a moment to pause and express my gratitude. I am especially thankful for the opportunity to represent the people of our great district. It is truly an honor to serve you and to be your voice at the State Capitol.

As we look ahead, the Second Regular Session of the 60th Legislature will convene on Feb. 2, 2026. I remain committed to representing our district with strong conservative values, integrity and a clear focus on the issues that matter most to Oklahoma families.

I have been working hard with the legislative staff on my bills for this upcoming session. We as members, were required to submit our bill requests in early December so the language of those bills could be drafted, and that work is now underway.

I look forward to continuing my work for our district and on issues such as strengthening rural health care, expanding access to care and reducing the cost of health care for Oklahomans.

As we celebrate Christmas, my prayer is that we keep our focus on its true meaning. Jesus Christ was born. Hope entered the world and just as the angels proclaimed long ago, God is still bringing light into the darkness and peace into our lives.

As always, I pray for every family in our district each day. I want the very best for you, and I am here to support you however I can.
