The three-day filing period for those interested in running for board of education offices up for election early next year got underway in Garvin County Monday and will continue through Wednesday, Dec. 3, at 5 p.m.
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday those who have filed a declaration of candidacy, according to the Garvin County Election Board, include:
Tess Slack, Elmore City-Pernell Board of Education, Office 3, for an unexpired term;
Derek Stanley, Elmore City-Pernell Board of Education, Office 1, for a five-year term;
David Klein, Maysville Board of Education, Office 1, for a five-year term;
Jeremy Nowlin, Paoli Board of Education, Office 4, for an unexpired term;
Richelle Humphrey, Pauls Valley Board of Education, Office 1, for a five-year term;
Shawn Mann, Stratford Board of Education, Office 1, for a five-year term;
Alex Young, Whitebead Board of Education, Office 2, for a three-year term.
All K-12 districts in the county – including Pauls Valley, Stratford, Wynnewood, Maysville, Lindsay, Paoli and Elmore City-Pernell – have Office No. 1 on their board of education up for election for a five-year term.
In addition, the Paoli and Elmore City-Pernell school districts each have an office to be filled for the remainder of an unexpired term. In Paoli, the unexpired term is for Office No. 4, and Elmore City-Pernell will be filling an unexpired term for Office No. 3.
Whitebead’s K-8 school district will be electing Office No. 2 on their three-member board, for a three-year term.
Prospective candidates have until 5 p.m. Wednesday to file for available board of education positions. Candidates may file at the Garvin County Election Board office in the Garvin County Courthouse, 201 W. Grant Ave., in Pauls Valley.
Candidate packets, including the statutory qualifications for holding a board of education seat, are available from the County Election Board or from the State Election Board’s website, oklahoma.gov/elections, under the “candidates” tab.
Board of education primary elections will be held statewide Feb. 10, 2026, and the board of education general elections will be April 7, 2026.
