Wynnewood remained undefeated with a shutout over Stratford, 56-0, during last Friday‘s homecoming game.
“It was a great win, and we are ready to tear up in the playoffs,” Wynnewood’s Phoenix Delaplain said.
The Savages lead District A-I-2 and will host a firstround playoff game.
On Wynnewood’s first offensive play of the game, Delaplain threw a 59-yard touchdown pass to Briar Davenport.
“The line continues to do outstanding, and the receivers continue to run great routes,” Delaplain said.
The next Savage drive ended with Davenport running 21 yards for a touchdown.
Stratford had a short rally towards the end of the first quarter, as the Bulldogs forced a Savage turnover on downs.
Starting on their own 46-yard line and continuing into the second quarter, the Bulldogs reached first and goal on the 8-yard line. On the second down, running back Joseph Smith was injured, and Stratford threw two incomplete passes to turn the ball over on downs.
Davenport ran in a 69-yard touchdown and caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Delaplain.
“We executed the play, and the line did what they needed to do, and I finished the job off,” Davenport said.
Then, Aydrian Knighten ran in a 4-yard touchdown to end the first half at 35-0. He scored again on a 1-yard run in the third quarter.
“I just thank my line because they made those blocks,” Knighten said.
Delaplain threw a 51-yard pass to Davenport that brought the third quarter to 49-0.
“We came out and handled business and got another win,” Davenport said.
Wynnewood started the fourth quarter at first and goal on the 4-yard line. Freshman Trae Williams scored the final touchdown.
“It was really hard, but I fought through it,” Williams said, “It did feel good to get my first touchdown.”
Wynnewood’s Jeremiah Martinez successfully kicked all 8 point-after attempts.
Stratford’s offense was led by Smith, who ran for 30 yards and received 30 yards. Dax Ross received 32 yards. Mahon Bear rushed for 26 yards.
Quarterback Gavin Haskins threw for 62 yards.
Braxton Bear had 8 tackles, and Gavin Green had 5 tackles.
“It was a tough night on the road at Wynnewood,” said Stratford Coach Michael Blackburn.
For the final week of the regular season, the Savages will travel to Walters, and Stratford will host Frederick for senior night.
