PAULS VALLEY, Okla. – The Garvin County Health Department, in partnership with the Chickasaw Nation, will offer free flu shots from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 at 1809 S. Chickasaw St.
“We are grateful to the Chickasaw Nation for continuing to provide flu vaccines to the local county health departments in a joint effort to protect the health of all residents living within the Chickasaw Nation,” said Chris Munn, regional administrative director for nine local health departments in south central Oklahoma.
Participants are encouraged to wear short sleeves and avoid bringing pets. The event is intended for ages 9 and older.
Influenza, also known as the flu, is caused by a virus that affects the nose, throat, airways and lungs.
The flu typically circulates in the United States from the beginning of October through the middle of May. One of the best ways to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccine each year.
Those at highest risk of serious complications include adults 65 years and older, pregnant women, children younger than two years of age and individuals with chronic conditions, like diabetes or heart disease.
