Lady Savages season ends in double elimination loss to Wilberton in regional tournament

A strong Wilburton team stopped Wynnewood from advancing in Regional competition.

“Anytime you get beat out, you hate to have that conversation with our kids, but I’m proud of our kids,” Coach Terry Rogers said.

The Lady Savages finish the season 17-17.

“Our coaches are new this year, and they’ve been really good,” added senior Olivia White.

Wynnewood lost to Regional Champions Wilburton 9-0.

“We had two good teams, and the score didn’t indicate that,” Rogers said. “We ran out of gas a bit, and they’re a good ball club.”

Wynnewood started the Regional Tournament on a stronger note, easily beating Wewoka 14-1.

Carlye Stokes pitched the win, striking out six and walking none.

Olivia White batted in three runs. Jurnee Jones and Danika Gibson hit home runs.

Then, the Lady Savages lost to Wilburton 10-4 for their first tournament loss.

Wynnewood came back from a 6-2 deficit in the top of the fifth against Walters to beat the Blue Devils 7-6.

“It was a good game,” senior Annika Pittman said. “We stayed together, and the boys kept us hyped. Our bond won us the game.”

Going into the bottom of the final inning, the Lady Savages were down 6-4.

With bases loaded, Pittman stepped up to the plate and hit a single that batted in two runs to tie the game at 6.

“I was so nervous,” Pittman said. “All I thought to myself was ‘hit the ball, hit the ball, hit the ball.’ I didn’t realize that was me. I was shocked.”

Then, after an intentional walk and two strikeouts, senior Trinity Dotson batted in the winning run on a fielder’s choice.

“I just got up there and hit it with confidence, and I knew everyone was looking at me to do something good,” Dotson said. “I thought I was going to let it go because I usually wait for a first strike. When I got in the box and saw them scooting back, I knew it was my turn.”
