Paoli Pugs are figuring out what’s in a name this football season.
The school’s football field has been without a name since being built in the early 1980s. There was also no record found of a name for the previous field, which is now home to the softball field.
Recently, when a curious alum asked Paoli Superintendent David Morris what the process would be to name the field, a new search began.
Morris is currently accepting name suggestions from the community through email at dmorris@paoli.k12.ok.us. Submissions should include the following: submitter’s name, current mailing address and phone number, their suggestion for a field name and brief explanation why, and the years they attended or graduated from Paoli Schools.
As of Wednesday, Morris reported about eight or nine suggestions have been formally submitted and others have said they were interested in submitting an idea.
“The community is definitely expressing their opinions, which is what we want,” Morris said.
All submissions received will be presented and discussed at the next regular school board meeting, Sept. 15.
Board members will decide what to do next with the submissions. Possible board actions might include deciding to officially choose one of the names or narrowing down the choices so the public can vote on a favorite.
The board meeting is 6 p.m. Monday in the superintendent’s office.
