Badgers fall to Little Axe 34-13

Elmore City-Pernell football started strong but ultimately fell to Little Axe 34-13 last Friday night.

The Badgers recovered an Indian fumble on the opening kickoff. Two plays later, Owen McConnell threw a 25-yard pass to Iziah Robinson for a touchdown. Carston Lauderdale made the extra point kick to put the Badgers up 7-0.

On the next drive, the ECP defense held Little Axe to four and done. Then a fumble gave the Indians possession again, which Rebel Doiron turned into a 46-yard touchdown run and an extra point to tie the game at 7.

The Badgers’ next drive ended with a quarterback sack on fourth and 4. Little Axe’s Doiron found the left side for a 37-yard touchdown run and point-after kick to take the lead 14-7.

The first quarter ended with the Badgers on their own 22-yard line.

Cutter Condit carried the ball to the 38 for a first down to open the second quarter. Dawson Milligan found an opening through the middle, then outran defenders to the right corner of the endzone to close the gap to 14-13. The kick was no good.

Both teams continued to turn the ball over on downs the rest of the half.

Indians’ Doiron found the endzone again on a 9-yard carry with four minutes left in the third quarter, stretching the lead to 20-13.

The quarter ended with Little Axe scoring on a 40-yard run, but failing on the two-point conversion, bringing the score to 26-13.

A 50-yard pass and a successful two-point conversion with about 3 minutes left finished the night’s scoring, 34-13.

This week, the Badgers will head to Southwest Covenant in Yukon for another non-district matchup. The Patriots are currently 1-0, coming off a 21-10 win over the Oklahoma City Patriots homeschool team.
