Summer reading programs are set to get underway at two Garvin County libraries in the month of June. Pauls Valley’s Nora Sparks Warren Library will kick off its summer reading program next week, and Wynnewood’s Public Library will host a summer reading program kickoff and grand re-opening party June 16, following a short closure over the next two weeks for remodeling.
Pauls Valley’s summer reading program will include special programs each Tuesday in June, as well as Monday Fun Day crafts and Thursday Movie Days through June and July.
The fun will begin Tuesday, June 3, at 2 p.m. with a Summer Reading kickoff party at the library, 210 N. Willow St. The kickoff will feature a petting zoo and a visit from the Kona Ice truck. Other Tuesday programs planned include Mad Science on June 10, Magician Joe Coover on June 17, and an Outdoor Foam Party on June 24. All Tuesday programs begin at 2 p.m. and are free of charge.
The Pauls Valley library will also host Monday Fun Days with crafts and activities from 2 to 3:30 p.m. each Monday in June, beginning June 9. In July, that same Monday Fun Day timeslot will feature open crafts for kids.
Thursdays in June and July will be movie days at the library, with free popcorn and lemonade. Movie days begin at 3 p.m. A schedule of movies to be shown each week is available at the library.
Kids will also have a chance to earn prizes for reading books with Summer Reading Bingo. Bingo cards can be picked up at the Pauls Valley library.
In Wynnewood the summer reading program will get off to a little later start than normal due to a remodeling project underway at the library. The building will be closed June 2-13 to allow that project to be completed.
A Grand Opening Party and Summer Reading Program Kickoff is scheduled for Monday, June 16, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Wynnewood Public Library, 108 N. Dean A. McGee Ave. The event will be come and go and will allow patrons to get a first look at the newly remodeled library and for kids to pick up their Summer Reading Bags.
Additional summer reading activities planned for the Wynnewood library in June include Take and Make Craft kits available for pick up June 17 and June 26, Story Time at the library at 10 a.m. June 18 and 25, Sandy Creations sand art craft time June 20 at 1 p.m., Movie Monday at the library June 23 at 2 p.m., Goo to Zoo craft with water gel animals June 24 at 2 p.m., Splash of Color Tie Dye event at the Wynnewood park June 27 at 10 a.m., and Lego Monday June 30 at 3 p.m. at the library.
Wynnewood Library Director Jamie Jennison said even though the library will be closed the first two weeks of June, kids can still get started with their summer reading logs. She said additional summer reading activities are in the works and will run through the first week of August. Jennison said details on those activities will be available in the coming weeks.
