City council seats, school board offices decided

Voters in several Garvin County communities went to the polls Tuesday to decide board of education and municipal elections.

In Pauls Valley, two incumbent City Councilmembers, Bonnie Meisel and Amy Richey, won reelection, while Kahn Nirschl was the decisive winner in a three-way race for the vacant Place 5 on Pauls Valley’s City Council.

In the race for Place 5, Nirschl received 352 of the 575 votes cast, or 61.22%, avoiding the need for a runoff election. Jeff Satterlee earned 169 votes (29.39%) and Kevin Driskill received 54 votes (9.39%), according to unofficial election results from the Garvin County Election Board.

The Place 5 Council position was previously held by Chip Pearson, who did not file for reelection in February and officially resigned from the position in March.

In the race for Place 4 on Pauls Valley's Council, Bonnie Meisel received 326 votes (56.7%) of the 575 votes cast to defeat challenger Matthew D. Huggans, who received 249 votes (43.3%).

Amy Richey will continue to serve the remainder of an unexpired term for Place 1 on Pauls Valley’s Council after she received 383 votes (67.43%) of the 568 cast in that contest. Challenger April Brown received 185 votes (32.57%).

Richey has served in the Place 1 seat since November 2023, when she was appointed to replace Eric Smith, who resigned from the position.

With 2,942 register voters currently eligible to participate in Pauls Valley municipal elections, according to the Garvin County Election Board, Tuesday’s election had about a 20% voter turnout.

In Paoli, two open positions on the Town Board of Trustees were won by Brian Pearson and Bryan Campbell. With 140 votes cast in that race, Pearson received 66 votes (47.14%), Campbell received 46 votes (32.86%) and Kevin Maloy received 28 votes (20%).

Three positions on the Maysville Board of Trustees were won by Eric S. Catman Sr., Kevin Kappes and Joy Taylor. Of the 86 votes cast in Maysville’s election Tuesday, Catman received 30 votes (34.88%), Kappes received 28 votes (32.56%), Joy Taylor received 21 votes (24.42%), and Louise P. Jones received 7 votes (8.14%).

In Wynnewood, Kaleb B. Patchell defeated Tonya Munn in the race to fill an unexpired term for a Ward 2 seat on the Wynnewood City Council. Patchell received 98 (79.67%) of the 123 votes cast in Tuesdsay's election, while Munn earned 25 votes (20.33%).

In Elmore City, Nathan Mullett defeated Julie Hardy by a six-vote margin to win the Ward 3 seat on the Elmore City Council. Mullett received 41 (53.95%) of the 76 votes cast, while Hardy received 35 votes (46.05%).

In board of education elections across the county Tuesday, incumbent Pauls Valley School Board member Jesse Alvarado retained his office, defeating challenger Daniel Feeback 435 votes tol55 votes. With 590 votes cast in that race, Alvarado claimed 73.73%, while Feeback received 26.27%.

Alex Young won the remaining unexpired term for Office 2 on Whitehead's Board of Education. Young received 146 votes (66.97%) of the 218 votes cast, while challenger Ricky Manning received 72 votes (33.03%).

In the Elmore City-Pernell School District, Steve Henderson won the election for Board of Education Office 5, receiving 103 votes (62.42%) of the 165 votes cast. Shalon S. McMillen received 62 votes (37.58%).

In Paoli's Board of Education election, Angela Norman defeated incumbent Terry Erwin for Office 5. Norman received 81 votes (66.94%) of the 121 votes cast, while Erwin received 40 votes (33.06%).

In Lindsay, voters approved 12 propositions proposing amendments to the city's charter. According to state statutes, those amendments will now have to go to the governor for approval before they can be finalized.

All election results are unofficial until certified by the County Election Board. Results are expected to be certified after 5 p.m. Friday.
