Garvin County is no longer under a burn ban.
The existing 14-day ban, which had been in place since March 17, expired Monday, and the Garvin County Board of Commissioners did not issue a new burn ban during their regular meeting Monday morning.
Garvin County Emergency Management Director David Johnson told the board during the meeting conditions in the county no longer meet the criteria necessary to declare a burn ban.
County-issued burn bans are based on a number of factors, according to the Oklahoma Department of Forestry, including current weather conditions, long-term forecasts, the condition of wildland fuels, current fire behavior and fire occurrence.
According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, as of March 27, conditions in Garvin County continue to be abnormally dry.
