Alton (Al) Earl Nowlin

In loving memory of Alton (Al) Earl Nowlin It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our beloved father, Alton Earl Nowlin, of San Leon, Texas, who left us on January 23, 2025, at the age of 86. Al was born on March 26, 1938, in Livingston, Texas, to Flavil and Margaret Nowlin. He spent his childhood in Dickinson, Texas, and was a 1956 graduate of Dickinson High School. He worked in industrial construction as a pipefitter and was a member of Pipefitters Local 211 for many years. He married Margaret Nan Bullard in 1956 and together brought into the world four spirited children: Alton Paul, Michael Keith, Kevin Mark and Deborah Jill Nowlin. In 1980 he moved to Wynnewood, and later settled in Paoli, Oklahoma, where he married Ovie Kaye Patton in 1982. Following Kaye’s passing in 2022, Al moved back to San Leon, Texas, to be closer to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Throughout his life Al enjoyed his dogs and cats, sports, especially football, fishing, with anyone who would go with him, and talking, to anyone who would listen. He was fiercely devoted to his family. He always cherished the time he had with his family. Al was a larger-than-life character and could tell the best jokes, sometimes repeats, to create the funniest of conversations. He was a very generous man. He would help anyone who was in need. He would literally give the shirt off his back to anyone, and he never asked for anything in return. He loved people.

Al is preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Betty Jane Miller; his wife, Kaye Nowlin; and a bunch of pets.

He is survived by Ben, his beloved dog; his children, Paul and wife Pam Nowlin of Dickinson, Texas; Mike and wife Robin Nowlin of San Leon, Texas; Mark Nowlin of San Leon, Texas; Jill Nowlin of Friendswood, Texas; and the mother of his children, Margaret Nowlin, of Friendswood, Texas.

Also surviving him are his grandchildren: Chanda and Brad Vollmar of Fredericksburg, Texas; Jeff and wife Melissa Nowlin of Bacliff, Texas; Joey Nowlin of San Leon, Texas; Christopher and wife Tracey Nowlin of La Marque, Texas; and Anthony Terrando of La Marque, Texas.

Great-grandchildren are: Alyssa and husband Logan Lane, Logan Nowlin, Chloe Nowlin, Sheena Nowlin, Michael Nowlin, Calissa Vollmar, Brennan Vollmar, Cana Vollmar, Caelyn Vollmar, Carsyn Vollmar, Eloise Nowlin, Genevieve Nowlin and Otto Nowlin.
