County schedules town hall meetings to discuss sales tax proposition and proposed detention center

There are several opportunities coming up for Garvin County residents to hear from county officials and ask questions about a proposed 1-cent county sales tax to fund a new county detention center. A special election to vote on the sales tax proposition will be held Feb. 11.

Sheriff Jim Mullett will be the guest speaker at the Garvin County 2A meeting, Jan. 27, at 6: 30 p.m. Garvin County 2A meets at 2001 S. Walnut St. in Pauls Valley.

County officials have also scheduled town hall meetings for the following dates: 

  • Tuesday, Jan. 28, at 6:30 p.m. at the Elmore City Community Center, 104 S. Main St.
  • Thursday, Jan. 30, at 11:30 a.m. at the Maysville Senior Citizens Center, 401 Elm St.
  • Thursday, Jan. 30, at 6:30 p.m. at the Hennepin Community Center
  • Friday, Jan. 31, at 6:30 p.m. at the Rural Electric Cooperative Building, 13942 Highway 76, in Lindsay
  • Monday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m. at the Wynnewood Senior Citizens Center, 804 E. Robert S. Kerr
  • Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 11 a.m. at the Lindsay Senior Citizens Center
  • Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 6:30 p.m. at the Paoli Senior Citizens Center, 408 W. Davis
  • Thursday, Feb. 6, at 11 a.m. at the Elmore City Community Center, 104 S. Main St.
  • Thursday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. at the Pauls Valley Community Building (old fair barn), 1274 N. Chickasaw St.

All meetings are open to the public and county residents are encouraged to attend.
