Therese A. Martin Swinney

Therese A. Martin Swinney, of Pauls Valley, passed away November 4, 2024, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years.

Therese Anne Martin was born October 30, 1930, in Chicago, Illinois, to John Otis Martin and Margaret Josephine (Price) Martin. Therese’s mother passed away when she was a little girl, so Therese was raised by her mother’s sister in Chicago,. Therese was a member of the Catholic Church where for about a year she served as a nun. Therese graduated high school in Chicago. At 17, she moved to and made Pauls Valley her home. There she met her husband to be, Robert “Bob” Swinney. She worked as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone in her late teens until she married Bob. Therese and Bob had a son, Patrick Swinney. Bob and Therese parted their ways when Bob’s job took him to Houston. Therese resided in Oklahoma City for more than 50 years, where she worked for her lifelong friend, David Collins, as his secretary.

Therese was preceded in death by her parents, John O. and Margaret J. (Price) Martin; her first husband, Bob Swinney; son, Patrick Swinney; her lifelong friend, David Collins; as well as her grandparents, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

She is survived by first cousins Ruth Hines, Betty Oberg, Doris Hines, Sonny Martin, Leon Martin, Chickie Martin, Jerry Dee Martin and Johnny Weld; second cousins Rita Hines-Fryar (Therese’s Guardian), Tony Hines, Monty Westbrook, Lori Hines Sample, Amy Hines, Gary Wall, Gayla Wall Mosteller, Paul Dean Wall and Dianna Wall Williams; as well as a host of other second cousins and family members.

A special word of appreciation is sent to The Willows’ Administrator Dana Vandever, Donna Sharp, and the wonderful nurses and staff; Life Springs Hospice nurses Jana Mara and Kacie Mara; Therese’s special caregiver Brenda Garza; and Lovie Washington, along with her Sittin’ with Angels Team of Nurses, for taking such great care of Therese. A Special ‘Thank You’ to David Fryar, Cynthia Neal, Melissa Brooks and Shannon Taylor for all they have done for Therese over the past four years.

Funeral services will be Friday, November 15, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery Pavilion officiated by family and friends. Interment will be at Mt.
