Winter Tales and Christmas Bird Count at CNRA
Join Chickasaw National Recreation Area park rangers for a Christmas Bird Count beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 30, at the Travertine Nature Center. Participants will sign up as volunteers and are welcome to stay just for a few hours in the morning or to continue into the afternoon. They should come prepared to spend most of the time outdoors, no matter the weather conditions.

Christmas in the Valley, Thursdays in December
Pauls Valley is hosting free community Christmas activities in the downtown and Santa Fe Depot areas each Thursday night in December from 6-8 p.m. Downtown merchants will be open for shopping, and weekly activities will include snowball fights, story reading, fire shows by Zanetastic, Christmas crafts for the kids and photos with Santa. Pauls Valley Arts Council’s next Fifth Friday Art Walk is Dec. 29 from 5:55-9 p.m.
The art walk features local artists and vendors, music and entertainment at locations throughout the downtown area. December’s Fifth Friday Art Walk will include entertainment by the Inspyral Circus LED Snow King and Queen. The Pauls Valley Arts Council building, 220 W. Paul Ave., will have a variety of artists and vendors displaying their wares, as well as music and door prizes, and other downtown businesses will be hosting artists at their locations.
Library Story Time
Children 4 and under are invited to attend Story Time with Ms. Pam at the Nora Sparks Warren Library, 210 N. Willow St., in Pauls Valley Thursdays from 10-10:30 a.m. Story Time activities will include stories, coloring, arts & crafts, games, puzzles, songs and puppets.
Washita Valley Beekeepers meet second Saturday
The Washita Valley Beekeepers Association meets the second Saturday of each month at 6 p.m. at the Nora Sparks Warren Library, 210 N. Willow in Pauls Valley. Their next meeting will be Jan. 13. OSU Extension to offer Forage Foundations Course, Jan. 9-Feb. 20
Garvin, Cleveland and McClain counties are hosting a seven-course Forage Foundations program by OSU Extension. The course will be offered Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m., beginning Jan. 9 and running through Feb. 20 at McClain County OSU Extension, 1721 Hardcastle Blvd, in Purcell. The course costs $50, which includes the Forage Foundations Manual.
The course covers all aspects of forage management and production across central and eastern Oklahoma, with the goal of educating producers on forage production and management principles to improve the sustainability and profitability of their livestock operations.
Pesticide applicators can also earn two continuing education units (1A) for the course.
