Candidate filing for Elmore City mayor begins Monday

Candidates interested in running for Elmore City mayor on the Nov. 14 ballot will need to file Declarations of Candidacy during next week’s filing period, which begins Monday, Oct. 2, at 8 a.m. and ends Wednesday, Oct. 4 at 5 p.m.

The non-partisan election in November will be to fill the remainder of an unexpired term for Elmore City’s mayor, which runs through April of 2025.

The position has been open since the resignation of Mayor Brandae Hucks in May of this year. Elmore City vice-mayor and councilmember Nicolette Haner has served as acting mayor since the position was vacated.

Garvin County Election Board Secretary Gayla Dean said any Contests of Candidacy must be filed by 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6, and may only be filed by another candidate for that office, unless a candidate files unopposed.

Candidates must be residents and registered voters in Elmore City for at least six months prior to filing as a candidate.

Declaration of Candidacy forms can be downloaded from the State Election Board website at oklahoma. gov/elections or by contacting the County Election Board office at 405-238-3303 or garvincounty@elections. ok.gov.

The Garvin County Election Board is located at 201 W. Grant, Room 8, and is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
