65th Annual Wynnewood Rodeo set for July 7-8

The 65th Annual Wynnewood Rodeo will be July 7-8 at the Wynnewood Round-Up Club Arena, 1402 E. Allen Street. Rodeo action will get underway at 8 p.m. nightly. This year’s rodeo will feature performances by The Canadian Valley Rangerettes. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children age 6-10. Children under 5 are admitted free. There will be a rodeo parade Saturday, July 8, at 10 a.m. in downtown Wynnewood.

Prescription take back event in Lindsay

The PASS Coalition is holding a Prescription Drug Take Back Event during Lindsay’s Fourth of July Festival Saturday, July 1, at Glenn Curlee Park. A booth will be set up at the event from 3 p.m. to dark to allow residents to drop off their unwanted medications in a secured disposal box with the help of the Oklahoma National Guard Counter Drug Taskforce. A take back event is a way to properly dispose of unwanted, unused, or expired medications from the home to reduce the chances of theft, abuse by others, or poisonings and accidental overdoses. Garvin County Democrats to meet July 1

The Garvin County Democrat Party will meet at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 1, in the Valley Community Hospital conference room, 100 Valley Drive. David Roberts, who is affiliated with the Oklahoma Democrat Party, will lead a training session on how to use the mini-VAN.

Pikes Peak School Museum Storytelling to feature Old Purdy Town

The Lindsay Community Historical Society will host another Storytelling at the Pikes Peak School Museum in Erin Springs Sunday, July 9, at 2 p.m. Three sisters of the Billingsley family, Venita George, Bonnie Rinehart, and Nancy Parker, will share their memories of the Old Purdy Town, once a thriving community of businesses and a school seven miles south of Lindsay. The Storytelling is free of charge, though donations are appreciated to help with continued operations. PV library hosting summer programs

Pauls Valley’s Nora Sparks Warren Library, 210 N. Willow, has several fun activities lined up for children 3-18 this summer as part of its summer reading program. This year’s summer reading theme is “All Together Now.” The library will host Monday Fun-Days from 2 to 4 p.m. each week, featuring games and activities for all ages. There will also be take home activities available each week for a variety of age groups. The library will host free movie days each Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. Story time for pre-school age children will continue the first and third Thursdays of the month. The library has “Library Bingo” sheets available, which offer children an opportunity to read and complete reading-related activities for prizes.

‘Bank on your Health’ every second Monday

The Health Department’s Mobile Wellness Unit will be visiting First United Bank, 315 West Grant Avenue, Pauls Valley from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. every second Monday to offer a variety of health screenings to the public at no cost. All ages are welcome. The next Bank on Your Health event is July 10. Screenings and services offered include flu shots, COVID-19 testing and vaccinations, rapid tests for flu, RSV, & strep, cholesterol tests, A1C, thyroid & metabolic panels, diabetes health education, and resources and referrals. There will also be body composition analysis readings using a Tanita biometric scale. Participants stand barefoot on the scale and electrical impulses help to provide information about bone mass, hydration levels, visceral fat and more.
