Pauls Valley man charged in drive-by shooting

A 73-year-old Pauls Valley man is facing multiple charges of shooting with intent to kill after an altercation that led to a drive-by shooting on South Paul Avenue over the weekend.

Pauls Valley police officers responded to a call of gunshots being fired in the area of South Paul Avenue and South Street just after 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Once there, officers made contact with Wesley Peters, 46, of Pauls Valley, who told them he had run out of gas and pulled into a drive in the 400 block of S. Paul Ave. Peters told officers he had gone to retrieve gas and was filling his vehicle when another vehicle driven by Carl Thomas pulled up.

According to a statement released by the Pauls Valley Police Department, the two men exchanged words and Thomas pulled away and then drove back past Peters, opening fire from his vehicle before fleeing the area.

A probable cause affidavit filed in the case said Peters also attempted to leave, but pulled over when he realized his vehicle was not driving properly due to a flat tire on the rear passenger side of the vehicle. A bullet hole was also found in the rear driver’s side door.

Officers collected multiple spent shell casings from the roadway at the scene.

Peters was taken into custody on an outstanding felony arrest warrant for domestic assault and battery by strangulation in a separate case.

A search warrant was later executed at the residence of Carl Thomas. Multiple firearms were seized pursuant to the warrant including one believed to have been used to shoot at Peters.

Thomas was arrested, interviewed and transported to the Garvin County Jail where he remains on charges of shooting with intent to kill and felon in possession of a firearm.

Thomas is currently being held on a $250,000 bond.
