C. C. “Bud” Helm, of Maysville, Oklahoma, went home to his Heavenly Father on April 18, 2023. Bud was born August 20, 1941 in Paris, Texas, to Christopher Columbus “Bud” Helm and Molita Fay (Strickland) Helm. He attended Byars and Stratford Schools, where he graduated in 1959. Bud was proud of his Chickasaw heritage and was a Chickasaw Warrior where he served as a sergeant in the Oklahoma National Guard from 1962 to 1968. He then attended East Central University in Ada where he met the love of his life, Linda. He completed a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Education. Bud spent most of his working career as a counselor in Oklahoma and North Texas schools. He positively impacted the lives of the students he worked with and was well-loved by his students and coworkers. Later in his career, he became a vocational counselor for the Texas Department of Corrections in Dallas, Texas. Bud had a passion for cattle and horses. After he retired, he continued to work full-time at his cattle ranch. He was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ and served as an elder and deacon in two different congregations.
He is preceded in death by his parents; nephew, Jimbo Helm; great-nephews, Jake Bittle and Trey Helm; and great-niece Brittney Rogers.
He is survived by his with of 54 years, Linda Helm; daughter, Lana Helm, of Maysville; daughter Nyree and husband, Colby Shawn, of Bridgeport, Texas; brother, Jimmy Helm of Byars, Oklahoma; granddaughter, Skylar and husband, Zack Ingram, of Bowie, Texas; grandson, Cole Shawn of Justin,Texas; great-grandsons, Riggs and Knox Ingram of Bowie, Texas; nieces, Shara and husband, Mike Rogers, of Byars, Debbie and husband, Keith Bittle, of Stratford, Oklahoma, Paige Helm of Stratford; and several great-nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held April 22, 2023, at Winans Funeral Home Chapel in Maysville, with Buster Sides, minister at Blanchard Church of Christ, officiating. Burial followed at Green Hill Cemetery in Lindsay, Oklahoma, under the direction of John W Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville.
