Lois Dean (Rose) Sumpter was born on March 20, 1938 in McAlester Oklahoma to Donald Rose and Ella Mae Slay. Lois passed from this life on February 19, 2023 at her home in Norman, Oklahoma at 84 years old. She attended school in McAlester, Oklahoma where she was raised. Lois worked as a cafeteria worker at Norman High School, a housekeeper at OU Medical Center, and then became a homemaker for her husband, Johnny Sumpter. Lois is survived by her husband of the home, Johnny Sumpter; brothers, Buddy Slay, Floyd Slay, and Boyd slay all from Lindsay, Oklahoma; her sister Pat Martin of Lindsay, Oklahoma; her daughter, Dana Diane Keppinger of Norman, Oklahoma; grandchildren, James, Carolyn, Debbie, Kelley, Brittany and husband Chad Steinmiller; and a host of great-grandchildren. Lois is preceded in death by her parents Donald Rose and Ella Mae Slay; brother Enoch Slay; sister, Yvonda Reed; and her children, Butch Claude Hixson and Elizabeth Karen “Lizzy” Sumpter.
Services were Thursday, February 23, 2023, at 1 p.m. graveside at Erin Springs Cemetery in Lindsay, Oklahoma and are under the direction of Wooster Funeral Home. Visitation will be Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at Wooster Funeral Home in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma.
