Filing period for school board elections begins Monday

The filing period for school board candidates in school districts across Garvin County will be Dec. 5-7.

Declaration of candidacy forms must be completed and submitted to the Garvin County Election Board office no later than 5 p.m. Dec. 7. The Garvin County Election Board office is located at 201 W. Grant Ave., Room 8, in Pauls Valley.

Garvin County school districts with board of education seats up for election are:

Elmore City-Pernell, Office 3 for a five-year term; Lindsay, Office 3 for a five-year term; Maysville, Office 3 for a five-year term; Paoli, Office 3 for a five-year term and Office 1 for a three-year unexpired term; Pauls Valley, Office 3 for a five-year term; Stratford, Office 3 for a five-year term; Whitebead, Office 2 for a three-year term and Office 3 for a two-year unexpired term; Wynnewood, Office 3 for a five-year term.

If only two candidates file for an open office their names will appear on the general election ballot April 4, 2023.

If more than two candidates file for the same open board of education position, a primary election will be held Feb. 14. Any candidate receiving more than 50% of the votes cast in the primary election will be elected to the office. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will move to a general election on April 4.
