Derek Thomas, of Moore, Oklahoma, passed away Friday, August 19, 2022, in Tuttle, Oklahoma. He was born April 11, 1986, in Norman, Oklahoma, to Rick Thomas and Traci Dunlap.
Derek grew up in Lexington, Oklahoma, attended school there, and graduated with the Bulldog Class of 2004. While in school, he loved playing sports such as basketball, football and especially golf. He went to state in his freshman and senior year of school in golf. Derek loved working with his hands and put them to good use on construction sites. When he wasn’t working, you could find him outside. He loved to hunt, fish, and make knives. He had the soul of a true country boy and was always happiest with a cold Miller High Life, and a dip of wintergreen Grizzly. He loved to make people laugh and smile. Derek was sweet, brutally honest, and had an ornery streak those he was close to saw often. He was a Batman fanatic, and a talented artist who loved to draw. He always had an appetite for Jo’s Pizza, or a Porterhouse steak when he could find one on the menu. Derek loved animals, especially his dog, Grizzly. He battled diabetes for many years and lost his eyesight for a time. Derek regained his vision and was a true overcomer in life who will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.
Derek was preceded in death by his papa, Richard Thomas. He is survived by his grandparents, Othel and Alma Delaney of Maysville, Oklahoma and Phyllis Thomas of Norman; his parents, Traci Dunlap and fiancé, Sean Cole, of Moore, Oklahoma and Rick Thomas and wife, Missy of Yukon, Oklahoma; his siblings, Andrew Thomas of Norman, Joseph Dunlap of Purcell, Oklahoma, and Apryl Dunlap of Ft.
