Garvin County Free Fair starts August 23

The Garvin County Free Fair gets underway next week at the Garvin County Fairgrounds in Pauls Valley.

Open and 4-H exhibit entries will be taken from 3-7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, and from 9-10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 24. Baked goods and fresh flower entries will also be taken Wednesday morning. The exhibit building will be closed Wednesday afternoon for judging.

Kid’s Days at the fair will be Thursday and Friday, Aug. 25-26, from 9 a.m to 2 p.m. A variety of fun, educational activities and booths will be available on Kid’s Days, including hands-on STEM activities, an outdoor milking parlor, bee hive education, a mobile bat display from Alabaster Caverns and OSU insect adventure.

Kid’s days will also feature a free hot dog lunch from 11 a.m to 1 p.m., sponsored by CVR Energy.

Thursday’s Cattle Show will begin at 5 p.m., followed by the Hog Show.

There will also be a pedal tractor pull Thursday at 6:30 p.m. Entries will be taken from 4-6 p.m. and no late entries will be accepted.

In addition to Kid’s Day, Friday’s activities include a tractor driving contest at 9 a.m., the Goat Show at 10 a.m. followed by the Sheep Show, and rabbit and poultry check-in from 5-7 p.m.

Saturday will feature the 2022 Garvin County Free Fair Horse Show and the Rabbit and Poultry Show, both beginning at 10 a.m.

Entries for the Weiner Dog Races and Best Dressed Pet contest will be taken beginning at 11:30 a.m. Weiner Dog Races start at noon, with the Best Dressed Pet contest following 30 minutes after the conclusion of the races.

Youth and adult cornhole tournaments will be held Saturday afternoon. The youth tournament will begin at 2 p.m. and the adult tournament gets underway at 4 p.m. Entries for both tournaments will conclude 30 minutes prior to tournament start times. The fair will also welcome a new event on Saturday, the 2022 Garvin County Homemade Ice Cream Contest. The contest will begin at 2:30, with ice cream served from 3-5 p.m.
