The Maysville Warriors opened their 2022 softball season Monday evening dominating in a double header against the Wayne Bulldogs and the Ringling Blue Devils.
Maysville’s pitcher Kelsey House was ready to play ball from the start of the game. House helped blank the Bulldogs in the first game by pitching a onehit game, striking out 10, and walking zero against the Bulldogs.
The rest of the team fed off House’s pitching performance by being aggressive at the plate and scoring six runs to end the game at 6-0. Gentry Wilmot, Jolie Summers, Leslie Wilmot, Briley Wood and Kendra Joslin all scored, with Allison Sanders scoring twice.
The game against Wayne was held up with a rain delay after two innings played. The fields ended up being extremely wet, and the coaches decided that a move in venue was needed to finish the games. The games were moved to the Wayne Bulldogs’ field about 12 miles away.
In the second game, the Warriors played the Ringling Blue Devils, continuing to be aggressive at bat, which had them up 3-1 over the Blue Devils by the end of the first inning.
Powerhouse Allison Sanders scored Gentry Wilmot on a triple-base hit to left field, and then scored herself on a double-base hit from Jolie Sanders. Sanders then scored on a single by Kelsey House. The last score for the Warriors to win the game 4-3 started with a walk of Gentry Wilmot, then Wilmot stole second base and Sanders hit a single to left to score Wilmot for the win.
Kelsey House received the win against the Blue Devils with two runs on 10 hits in five innings, striking out three and again walking zero.
