Overall, Garvin County municipalities saw an increase in sales tax distributions in July of 2022 over the same period last year, according to the July 2022 distribution of sales tax collections report released by the Oklahoma Tax Commission this week.
However, with inflation rates hovering around 8% nationally, those increases aren’t going as far as they did this time last year.
Elmore City and Wynnewood both showed significant drops in sales tax revenue for the period distributed in July, while Lindsay showed the largest increase in the county, pulling in $86,314 more than the city collected for the same period in 2021.
The July 2022 distribution of sales tax collections by the Oklahoma Tax Commission primarily represents local tax receipts from May business. Companies that remit more than $2,500 monthly in sales tax receipts are required to file and pay electronically. The monies they reported this period represent sales from May 16-30 and estimated sales from June 1-15.
The disbursement of $194,656,884 in sales tax collections returned to the cities and towns reflected an increase of $14,386,010 from the $180,270,874 distributed to the cities and towns in July last year. The use tax disbursement to cities and towns was $31,042,126.
In county returns, the counties shared in a $32,855,555 sales tax disbursement and a $5,541,952 use tax disbursement.
