Garvin County 4-H members from Stratford recently competed at the State Meats Identification and Livestock Judging Contests on the campus of Oklahoma State University.
The Garvin County Junior Division team consisting of Ella Lister, Parker Hinkle and Cordie Chandler were named the 2022 State Reserve Champions. A second Garvin County Junior Division team consisting of Shelby Lister, Korbin Hinkle and Jonathon Wright earned Fourth Place State Junior Team Overall.
In the Senior Division, the Garvin County team of Grace Wright, Faith Wright and Walker Chandler was named the Third Place State Senior Team Overall.
Garvin County members also represented well in individual scoring. In the Junior Division Ella Lister was named Fourth Overall, Parker Hinkle was named Fifth Overall, Shelby Lister was named Ninth Overall, Korbin Hinkle with Tenth Overall, Cordie Chandler at Eleventh Overall and rounding out the Junior Division was Jonathon Wright at Twenty-second Overall.
In the Senior Division Grace Wright was named Sixth Overall, followed by Faith Wright at Seventh Overall and Walker Chandler at Eleventh Place Overall.
Students participating in the Meats Identification Competition show their ability to evaluate carcasses and identify meats. It helps build strong consumer decision making skills as well as communication and confidence.
