QUANAH LEE GOWER

Quanah Lee Gower, of Paoli, Oklahoma, formerly of Maysville, Oklahoma, was born October 28, 1933, in Stratford, Oklahoma. She was the sixth child of thirteen children born to J. W. and Nellie (Willis) Staley. She passed from this life on March 30, 2022, in Norman, Oklahoma, at the age of 88 years.

Quanah was a resident of Maysville for most of her life. She was a sister to many siblings, helping raise the younger ones. She graduated from Maysville High School in 1953 and married the love of her life, Roy Gower on February 6, 1953, in Maysville, and became a military wife. Roy once said that Quanah was the perfect military wife, expressing that she was very instrumental in the success of his career. She loved taking care of Roy, her children, and grandchildren alike. She was a master seamstress, and once had aspirations of becoming a fashion designer. She enjoyed baking, gardening, canning, and preparing meals for her family. Gravy and biscuits for breakfast were her forte. Quanah was a member of the First Assembly of God Church and she loved the Lord with all her heart and led her family to love Him too. She will be dearly missed her family.

Survivors include her son, Rick Gower and Carey Boyd of Paoli; grandchildren: Josh Gower and wife, Heather, Katie Cooper and husband, Luke, Jacob Gower, Kylie Gower, Annalee Philpott Gilmore and husband, John, and Jonathan Philpott; great-grandchildren, Makenna and Lincoln Cooper, Caroline Gower, Jaqi Gilmore, Adrianna Fay Philpott, and Allie Mae Philpott; sisters, Leona Caves of Norman, Oklahoma, Jane Perry of Anderson, Indiana, Margie Deal of Duncan, Oklahoma and Nellie Elroy of Marlow, Oklahoma.

Quanah was preceded in death by her parents, J. W. and Nellie Staley; husband, Roy Richard Gower, Sr.; daughter, Linda Michelle Gower Philpott; sisters, Ernestine Ince, Anita Prince, and Irene Spruill; brothers, J. W. “Jay” Staley, W. J. “Junior” Staley, Jesse Staley, Johnny David Staley, and Dois Orten Staley.

Visitation for family and friends was held from 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, April 7, 2022, at Winans Funeral Home Chapel.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, April 8, 2022, at Winans Funeral Home Chapel, Maysville, with Tim Deal officiating. Burial will be in the Maysville Cemetery, Maysville, Oklahoma, under the direction of John W. Williams of Winans Funeral Home, Maysville.
