Early voting begins Thursday, March 31, for Board of Education elections in the Whitebead and Elmore City-Pernell school districts and the Lindsay City Council election. Voters who will not be able to make it to the polls on election day, April 5, have the option of voting early at the Garvin County Election Board.
Garvin County Election Board Secretary Gayla Dean said early voting is open to all voters.
“You do not need to provide an excuse to vote early. Oklahoma allows early voting for all elections conducted through the State Election Board— from school board and municipal elections to state and federal elections. This is a great option for those who will be out of town on election day or who want to avoid long lines,” Dean said.
Elections on April 5 include a municipal election in Lindsay for four city council positions. One of those positions is for a one-year unexpired term on the council. Voters will choose between Vern Roe, Amy Elledge, Billy R. Nye Jr. and Angel Wilbourn to fill that position. The other three positions are for two-year terms. To fill those positions, voters will choose between Tom Inman, Stephanie Palmer, Bev Barker, Bart Drennan, Greg Henderson, Shanda Hernandez and Steve Staggs.
In the Whitebead School District, voters will decide a race between Jess Patton and Belinda K. Hunt for a position on the Whitebead Board of Education currently occupied by Patton.
In the Elmore City-Pernell School District, Brent L. Balentine and Carl Stevens are vying for a school board office currently held by Balentine. Voters in that race should be aware of two precinct closures that will affect a handful of voters in the district.
The ECP school district has chosen not to open precincts that use the Erin Springs Baptist Church and the First United Methodist Church in Maysville as polling places for the April 5 election. Voters who normally cast their ballots at those polling places should have already received notification by letter through the county election board and will need to vote by absentee ballot or early voting.
Early voting is available Thursday, March 31, and Friday, April 1, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Garvin County Election Board located at the Garvin County Courthouse, 201 W. Grant in Pauls Valley. Early voting is not available at polling locations.
The Garvin County Election Board is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. For questions, please contact the election board at 405-238-3303 or garvincounty@elections.ok.gov.
