•County Democrats looking to form Young Democrats Organization
The Garvin County Democratic Party is looking to form a Young Democrats Organization made up of students who want to participate in upcoming political events during this election year. County Democrats are inviting you to join them on Thursday, January 20, at 6:30 p.m. at the Recreation Center in Pauls Valley, located at 1005 N. Willow in Wacker Park. Pizza and soft drinks will be available. The guest speaker at this meeting will be Shalondra Harrison, Executive Vice President of the Oklahoma Young Democrats Organization. Four different yoga classes are currently being offered free of charge at Pauls Valley’s Nora Sparks Warren Library, 210 N. Willow. Beginners yoga meets Mondays from 6-7 p.m., Jan. 10-Feb. 28; Chair yoga meets Fridays from 10-11 a.m., Jan. 14-March 4; Vinyasa flow yoga meets Wednesdays from 6-7 p.m., Jan. 12-March 2; and Yin yoga meets Wednesdays from 7:15-8:15 p.m., Jan. 12-March 2. Pauls Valley Friends of the Library meets the first Tuesday of every month at 1 p.m. at the Nora Sparks Warren Library, 210 N. Willow, Pauls Valley. Everyone is welcome.
•“Let’s Talk About It” lecture series: Crime & Punishment
The Nora Sparks Warren Library is hosting a four-part lecture series that explores the theme of crime and punishment through the lens of literature. The series is a program of Oklahoma Humanities. Each program features a talk from a literary expert who will offer a deeper understanding of the text, the author, and the themes related to the book, allowing readers to gain new insight regarding the book before the discussion unfolds. Lecture dates and titles are: Jan. 25, “To Kill a Mockingbird” by Harper Lee, led by Professor Rebecca Jacobs-Pollez; Feb. 22, “In Cold Blood” by Truman Capote, led by Professor Joshua Grasso; March 22, “A Clockwork Orange,” by Anthony Burgess, led by Professor John Morris; and April 26, “A Lesson Before Dying,” by Ernest J. Gaines, led by Professor Ken Hada. All lectures begin at 6 p.m. at the library, 210 N. Willow, Pauls Valley.
