A two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Ripley (State Highway 74) and 3rd Streets in Maysville closed a portion of Highway 74, north of State Highway 19, briefly Wednesday afternoon The temporary closure caused significant traffic congestion as motorists were rerouted through Maysville. The situation was compounded by increased Thanksgiving holiday traffic taking Highway 74 to avoid construction congestion on Interstate 35.
The accident occurred as a Toyota SUV was trying to cross Highway 74 on 3rd Street and was struck by a Ford pickup traveling northbound on the highway. At least one passenger involved in the accident was treated for injuries at the scene and released, according to Maysville Police Chief Paul Bush.
