Candidates for school board offices in districts across Garvin County can file their Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6. The three-day filing period ends at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 8. All candidate filings will occur at the Garvin County Election Board office, 201 W. Grant, Room 8, in Pauls Valley.
Candidates may file for the following offices in their respective districts: Elmore City-Pernell School District, Office 2; Lindsay School District, Office 2; Maysville School District, Office 2; Paoli School District Office 2; Pauls Valley School District, Office 2; Stratford School District, Office 2; Whitebead School District, Office 1; and Wynnewood School District, Office 2.
School board positions at stake will be filled at the Board of Education primary election scheduled Feb. 8, 2022, and the Board of Education general election on Tuesday, April 5, 2022. If only two candidates file, the position will be filled at the general election. If more than two candidates file, a primary election will be held. If no candidate receives more than 50% of the total votes cast in the primary election, the two candidates receiving the highest number of votes will meet in the general election.
Candidates for municipal offices in Elmore City will also file Declarations of Candidacy beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, Dec. 6. Garvin County Election Board Secretary Gayla Dean said the filing period for those offices will be open through 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 8.
Declarations of Candidacy for Elmore City Councilmember Ward 2 (term expires 2023) and Councilmember Ward 3 (term expires 2025) will be accepted at the County Election Board office.
Both of the Elmore City council positions will be filled in a nonpartisan special election scheduled for Feb. 8, 2022.
