Antique airplane fly-in and car show set for Nov. 6 in Pauls Valley

The Oklahoma Antique Airplane Association will host its annual fly-in and car show at the Pauls Valley Municipal Airport Saturday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

This will be the third year the OAAA’s annual fly-in has included a car show in an effort to draw in a larger audience.

Last year around 200 cars entered the show and 40 planes flew-in and were on display, nearly tripling the number of participants the event saw in 2019, according to OAAA President Chris Salazar.

“This year it looks like we’re going to have a pretty good turnout, too,” Salazar told PV Tourism Board members during their September meeting.

In addition to a large display of antique aircraft and automobiles, this year’s event will include a variety of food trucks and vendor booths. The OAAA will also be raffling off gift baskets and other items throughout the day.

The car show includes thirty-three classes or categories of vehicles, both stock and custom, with first place prizes awarded in each class.

The annual fly-in and car show serves as fundraiser for the non-profit OAAA. The organization has hosted its annual fly-in and business meeting at the Pauls Valley Airport since the mid-1980’s, according to members Donnie and Shannon Sharp. After several years of decline due to aging membership, the flyin has seen a resurgence in the last 10 years or so and OAAA members are hoping to continue to grow the event, potentially drawing more overnight tourists to the area.

“With airplanes, people can come in from further away. We’re definitely going to try to keep growing it. We would like to see it eventually become a multi-day event,” Shannon said.

The fly-in and car show will be held at the OAAA building on the northwest end of the airport, near the Pauls Valley Golf Course. Attendees may enter through the second drive, north of the golf course, on the east side of the road. The entrance will be marked with signs and banners. Admission to the event is free.
