Two teenagers were killed and two others were injured in a two-vehicle collision about 10 miles east of Wynnewood Friday morning, according to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
The accident happened just before 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of State Highway 29 and U.S. 177.
According to OHP, the four teenagers were traveling in a 2024 Nissan Altima that collided with a 2021 Nissan Titan driven by 72-year-old Karon Rankin of Stratford. Rankin was not injured in the collision.
The Altima’s driver, a 17-year-old girl from Sulphur, was airlifted to an Oklahoma City hospital, where she was treated and later released, according to OHP.
Two passengers in the car, a 15-year-old girl, with no hometown listed, and a 14-year-old boy from Wynnewood were transported to Arbuckle Memorial Hospital in Sulphur, where they were pronounced dead by medical personnel.
A third passenger in the car, a 17-year-old boy from Wynnewood, was also airlifted to an Oklahoma City hospital where he was admitted in critical condition with head and trunk internal injuries.
Seat belts were in use in both vehicles, according to OHP. The cause of the collision is still under investigation.
Authorities have not released the names of the juveniles involved, but family members and the Wynnewood School District have identified the 14-year-old boy who died as Malakye Miles, an incoming freshman at Wynnewood High School.
The school district said it has counselors and resources available for any students, staff or families that need support.
