Fifth graders in Mrs. Shannon's class at Maysville Elementary School have been studying the judicial system and had the opportunity April 23 to participate in a mock trial with Garvin County court officials.
District Judge Leah Edwards spoke to students about her role in the judicial system and presided over the mock trial. Student Katie Hornbuckle (far left) served as defense attorney for defendant “Robin Banks,” portrayed by Garvin County Assistant District Attorney Madison Homer (seated beside Hornbuckle). Student Mason Powell (table at right) served as the prosecutor in the case.
