(OKLAHOMA CITY) – The Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma received more than 508,000 pounds of food and nearly $105,000 in financial donations during the National Association of Letter Carriers’ 34th Annual Stamp Out Food Drive May 9.
As part of the annual food drive, Oklahomans were encouraged to leave bags of nonperishable food by their mailboxes for collection. Letter carriers across central and western Oklahoma gathered donations along their routes and delivered them to local post offices, where over 370 volunteers sorted and prepared food for distribution.
“We are extremely grateful for the support of our letter carriers, presenting sponsors OG&E and American Fidelity, volunteers and the generosity of Oklahomans,” said Stacy Dykstra, chief executive officer at the Regional Food Bank. “Year after year, this food drive is a reminder that fighting hunger takes all of us.”
The food and funds collected during this food drive will help provide 737,892 meals to Oklahomans living with hunger. All donations will stay local and support more than 140 communities throughout the Regional Food Bank’s 53-county service area.
Since 1992, the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive has helped provide more than 14.5 million meals to Oklahomans living with hunger.
This year’s Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive was additionally sponsored by CSAA-AAA Insurance, OU Health, WEOKIE Foundation, Bank of Oklahoma and the Oklahoman.
