School districts across the county heading back to class

Motorists are encouraged to pay attention to school zones and keep an eye out for school buses loading and unloading children as students across Garvin County head back to the classroom starting this week.

Students in Wynnewood were the first to head back this year, with the first day of classes there taking place Thursday (Aug. 7).

Other Garvin County school districts will get underway next week with the first day of classes at Whitebead and Paoli schools set for Wednesday, Aug. 13, and the first day of classes in Maysville, Pauls Valley, Lindsay, Elmore City and Stratford set for Thursday, Aug. 14.

Most districts will also be holding open houses or meet the teacher nights early next week to welcome students and parents back to the classroom.

Whitebead will host its Back to School night Monday, Aug. 11, from 5-7 p.m. Meet the Teacher Night at Paoli Schools will also be Monday from 5-7 p.m.

Pauls Valley, Stratford, Maysville and Elmore City-Pernell schools will host Meet the Teacher Night Tuesday, Aug. 12. Students at Elmore City-Pernell Elementary School will meet their teachers from 6-7 p.m., while the ECP Middle School and High School’s Meet the Teacher will be from 6:30-7:30 p.m.

Pauls Valley’s Meet the Teacher Night will be from 5-7 p.m., Stratford’s will be from 5:30-7 p.m., and Maysville’s will be from 3-6 p.m.

Lindsay Schools will hold an Open House night for students and their families Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 5-7 p.m.

As the school year gets underway, several athletic programs and booster clubs in the county are also holding events to welcome students and give the community a chance to show their school pride.

The Wynnewood Athletic Boosters are helping kick the year off with a Meet the Savages Ice Cream Social at the Wynnewood City Park tonight (Aug. 8) at 7:30 p.m. The community is invited to come meet the 2025 Savages and Lady Savages.

In Elmore City, the Chamber of Commerce and local churches will hold an ice cream social at the football field Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 7:30 p.m., followed by Meet the Badgers from 8-8:30 p.m.

Pauls Valley’s Meet the Panthers and Lindsay’s Meet the Leopards will both take place Friday, Aug. 15, at 7 p.m. Pauls Valley’s event will be at Thompson Field in Wacker Park, and Lindsay’s will take place at Burford Field in Lindsay.
