Annual property tax statements should be arriving in mailboxes across the county in the next week or so, and Garvin County Treasurer Sandy Goggans said this year’s statements look different than what taxpayers are used to seeing. The changes are the result of a new operating system the treasurer’s office implemented in July.
The 2021 property tax statements are three-part statements, with the actual tax bill at the top and two payment coupons below, one for first half or full payment, which is due by Dec. 31, and another for the second half payment due by March 31, for those who chose to pay in two installments.
In the past, the Treasurer’s office has mailed out second statements in January for the remaining half payment. Goggans said she’s not sure at this point if they will go ahead and do that again this year as they transition to the new system, but the intent is the new three-part statements will eventually save the expense of mailing two separate statements.
“Things will be a little different this year,” Goggans said. “We hope everything goes smoothly, and we just ask everyone to please be patient as we get this new system in place.”
Taxpayers will also have a new e-check option for online payments this year. Goggans said the e-check option offers the best deal for online taxpayers, adding a flat fee of $1.75 per transaction for processing, whereas credit card payments incur a 2.95% processing fee and debit card payments incur a flat fee of $3.95 for processing. Online payments can be made at www.oktaxrolls. com.
Online payments are a great option for taxpayers who want to avoid long lines and wait times, especially when paying closer to the Dec. 31 deadline, Goggans said.
The new tax statements also have scannable barcodes printed on them that are unique to each tax roll item. Goggans said if taxpayers paying in person will bring the payment coupons provided on the statement with them, it will speed up the payment process and help ensure payments are applied correctly.
