K9 joins Sheriff ’s Office

The Garvin County Sheriff's Office announced last week it has started a new K9 program to be led by Deputy Brandon Stockard, who has taken on the responsibility of the K9 program and has worked hard to get K9 Maverick certified through the State of Oklahoma.

K9 Maverick will be Deputy Stockard's third K9 since he started his career in law enforcement in 2008. K9 Maverick is an 8-year-old Shepherd with the drive and energy of a 1-year-old pup, which shows in his desire to go to work, according to Stockard.

Stockard and Maverick started training in late March and were able to train with K9 handlers from Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs and Oklahoma Highway Patrol. Maverick has been certified in the past and will be paired with Stockard until Maverick is ready for retirement.

As part of the K9 program, Maverick will be visiting various schools in Garvin County and assisting the law enforcement agencies in the area with his certified narcotics detection skills.

The Garvin County Sheriff's Department would like to thank Fluffy Butts Grooming in Wynnewood for donating their services for Maverick.
