Independence Day celebrations planned across the county

Several Garvin County communities have fireworks shows and community gatherings planned between now and July 4 in celebration of Independence Day.

Pauls Valley’s “Boom in the Valley” fireworks celebration will be July 4 at Wacker Park.

This year’s event has been planned with a specific focus on families and community. It will also feature the longest and largest fireworks show in the area, according to Pauls Valley Tourism Director Tawni Huggans.

“For this year’s event, we’re going to pull it out of the football field and into the park,” Huggans said. “The school has been so gracious to let us use the field in the past, but the move into the center portion of the park this year gives us a little more room for kids activities and food vendors.” All of the activities at this year’s event will be free, including the inflatables in the Kids Zone, mechanical bull rides, face painting, and a Glow Party by Oz Productions.

“We want families to be able to come out and enjoy the evening and celebrate and not have to worry about the cost,” Huggans said.

There will also be live music by Ray and the High Rollers, and the World Championship Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest, sponsored by First United Bank, will get underway at 6 p.m.

Several local organizations will have food booths set up, and there will be a charge for those, with all proceeds serving as a fundraiser for those organizations.

“This is a way for us to support these local organizations. We want it to go back into our community,” Huggans said.

The Pauls Valley Fraternal Order of Police will have burger baskets with burgers, chips and lemonade for $8; the Pauls Valley Fire Department will have big cups of ice cream for $7; the Masonic Lodge will have hot dog baskets with hot dogs, chips, and water for $7; SnowShak-2Go will have Snow Cones $5 and under with proceeds supporting P.A.W.S.; cotton candy, peach smoothies and funnel cakes will be offered by Sweet Treats by Weatherford Ministries; and LovePV will have cold water and cans of pop for $1.

Everyone is encouraged to bring their blankets and lawn chairs and stake out a spot for viewing the fireworks, which are expected to get underway at dark.

Lindsay Summer Fest

The City of Lindsay will host its Summer Fest celebration at Glenn Curlee Park on Saturday, June 28.

Everyone is invited to bring their blankets and lawn chairs for an afternoon of community celebration in the park with live music, food trucks, bounce houses, and free swimming all day. Fireworks will begin at dusk.

Elmore City’s God and Country Fireworks

Several area churches are partnering with Elmore City again this year to sponsor the annual God and Country Fireworks celebration at the Elmore City Lake, Sunday, June 29. The free event will begin at 7 p.m. with live music, games and inflatables. Prayer tents will also be available prior to the fireworks. The professional fireworks display will begin at dark and will be synchronized to Christian and patriotic music.
