New Community Building to host fair exhibits for first time

The 2025 Garvin County Free Fair is set to begin next weekend at the Garvin County Fairgrounds, with opening day Saturday, Aug. 23. The fair will run through Friday, Aug. 29.

Similar to the last couple of years, this year’s opening day will include the Horse Show and contests and activities including weiner dog races, the best dressed pet contest, Ag Olympics, corn hole, a salsa contest and the Fair Royalty presentations.

The popular Kids Days, normally held Thursday and Friday of the fair, will be shortened to just one day this year, according to Garvin County Fair Board member Amy Covel. This year’s Kids Day will be Friday, Aug. 29, and will feature a variety of family- friendly activities, exhibits and demonstrations.

This year will also be the first time for fair exhibits to be displayed in the new Community Building at the Garvin County Fairgrounds. The building, formerly known as the Women’s Building, has been extensively renovated by the county over the last two years.

Last year, indoor fair exhibits were moved from the fairgrounds to the Pauls Valley Arts Council Building for display due to the ongoing renovations. Covel said the fair board is extremely grateful to the Arts Council for providing space last year, but it will be nice to be back at the fairgrounds this year.

“They were so helpful and so good to us last year,” Covel said. “But we’re all very glad to be back in one location this year. It will be a great opportunity for the community to get out and see all the new improvements to the buildings.”

Fairgoers can also expect to see new displays for the OHCE and indoor exhibits this year, Covel said.
