Garvin County 4-H members recently showcased their communication and leadership skills at the annual County 4-H Speech Contest, with youth competing in Cloverbud, Junior, Intermediate, and Senior divisions. Participants presented demonstrations, illustrated talks, extemporaneous speeches, informative presentations, and job readiness interviews.
In the Cloverbud division, Perri Sparks received a Certificate and ribbon for her demonstration, “Directed Drawing – Chick.”
Junior division competitors delivered strong performances. Henry Sparks, Pauls Valley, earned two first place awards in Extemporaneous Speaking for “I Am a 4-H Member Because…” and in the Famous Person category with his informative presentation on Ted Williams.
Mia Mercer, Stratford, received first place for her Illustrated Talk titled “Axolotl.”
In the Intermediate division, Charlee Cothren, Stratford, earned first place in Informative Speech with “Cattle Collars.” Kaden Feeback, Pauls Valley, received first place in the PowerPoint category. Ava Somers, Lindsay, placed second in PowerPoint, followed by Elise Beach, Maysville, with third place, and Jozlynn Bellville, Stratford, with fourth place. In Job Readiness, Elise Beach, Maysville, earned first place for her interview skills.
Senior members demonstrated advanced communication and career preparation skills. Katelynn Stanley, Elmore City, received first place in Job Readiness (Interview) and also earned first place in Extemporaneous Speaking with her topic, “What Lifetime Skills Have Your 4-H Projects Taught You?”
Devin Stanley, Elmore City, earned second place in Job Readiness (Interview) and second place in Extemporaneous Speaking with “What Does Integrity Mean to You?”
The Garvin County 4-H Speech Contest provides youth with the opportunity to build confidence, strengthen public speaking abilities, and develop critical thinking skills that prepare them for future leadership roles. Congratulations to all participants for their hard work and dedication in representing their clubs and communities so well.
