Deadline to request absentee ballots is Jan. 26

Voters in Garvin County who want absentee ballots mailed to them for the Feb. 10 board of education primary elections or the Elmore City-Pernell school bond special elections should apply now, according to Garvin County Election Board Secretary Holly Levis.

Applications for absentee ballots must be received by the County Election Board no later than 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 26.

Levis said absentee voting is available to all voters and can be submitted several ways.

“In Oklahoma, no excuse is needed to vote by absentee ballot, and it’s easy to apply. Voters can submit their application online, in-person, by fax, mail, or by email,” Levis said.

Voters can apply online using the OK Voter Portal at oklahoma.gov/elections/ ovp. Applications are also available at the County Election Board or can be downloaded at oklahoma. gov/elections.

Registered voters may vote by absentee ballot in any election in which he or she is eligible to vote. Voters must be registered and reside at an address within the geographical boundaries of a school district or a municipality to be eligible to vote in school district or municipal elections. It is not necessary to give a reason for voting absentee.

Levis reminds voters that absentee ballot applications must be submitted by the voter requesting the ballot. It is against the law to submit an absentee ballot application for another person.

Voters with questions about absentee voting should contact the County Election Board at 405-2383303 or garvincounty@elections. ok.gov.

The Garvin County Election Board is located in the Garvin County Courthouse, 201 W. Grant, Room 8, and is open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday thru Friday.
