Garvin County Health Dept. hosts free flu clinic, Oct. 24

The Garvin County Health Department, in partnership with the Chickasaw Nation, will offer free flu shots from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Oct. 24 at 1809 S. Chickasaw St. Participants are encouraged to wear short sleeves and avoid bringing pets. The event is intended for ages 9 and older. Influenza, also known as the flu, is caused by a virus that affects the nose, throat, airways and lungs. The flu typically circulates in the United States from the beginning of October through the middle of May. One of the best ways to prevent the flu is by getting a flu vaccine each year. Those at highest risk of serious complications include adults 65 years and older, pregnant women, children younger than two years of age and individuals with chronic conditions, like diabetes or heart disease.

 

Fifth Friday Art Walk, Oct. 31

The Pauls Valley Arts Council will hold their next Fifth Friday Art Walk Oct. 31 from 5:55 to 9 p.m. in downtown Pauls Valley with live music, free carriage rides, food, hot apple cider, and plenty of vendors and art on display.

The Arts Council building at 220 W. Paul Ave. will have a variety of vendors and artists, along with music entertainment by Pake McEntire.

Vendors and artists will also be stationed on the east end of Paul Avenue near the Santa Fe Depot and the Tacos Alex food truck will be downtown during the Art Walk.

 

Library Story Time, Thursdays at 10 a.m.

Children of all ages are invited to come have fun reading, singing and crafting during Story Time at the Nora Sparks Warren Library, 210 N. Willow St., in Pauls Valley. Story Time is at 10 a.m. each Thursday.

 

Group searching for past Wiley Post Festival T-shirts

A group of Maysville quilters is asking for donations of Wiley Post Festival T-shirts from previous years. The shirts will be used to make quilts the group plans to put up for auction at next year’s Wiley Post Festival as a fundraiser for the Maysville library. Anyone interested in donating a shirt can contact the Maysville library at 405-867-4748.

 

Pauls Valley Angel Tree accepting applications Nov. 3-8

The mission of the Pauls Valley Angel Tree is to ensure every child in our community feels seen, valued and remembered this Christmas season by uniting as a community to provide gifts and care packages to those who would otherwise go without.

Those in need of assistance this holiday season, may apply for Pauls Valley’s Angel Tree program at the Nora Sparks Warren Library, 210 N. Willow St., during the following dates and times: Nov. 3 from 1-3 p.m., Nov. 4 from 10 a.m-noon, Nov. 5 from 4-6 p.m, Nov. 6 from 10 a.m.-noon, Nov. 7 from 1-3 p.m. and Nov. 8 from 10 a.m.-noon.

Children 0-18 who reside in Pauls Valley and attend Pauls Valley or Whitebead Schools (if school age) may qualify. Homeschooled children will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must provide a government issued ID, proof of residence and proof of enrollment (if applicable).
